Review — A Detox of 3 Days

My body had to be reset again. The move, holidays, a mini vacation and some parties had messed up my eating habits. My 80/20 rule was hard to find and it was difficult for me to get back into line. I also just love food so much and if there is something good for me I can hardly resist it.

Time to change course again. Dieting is not spent on me, I cannot keep it up. A healthy eating pattern, nice and light dishes, interspersed with guilty pleasures. Life is too short not to enjoy. To give myself a push in the right direction, I decided to try a short detox. With the emphasis on trying, because I had a hard head that I would keep it up.

What is a detox?

A detox is meant to detoxify your body, a kind of inner cleansing. During the detox you use food that contains extra vitamins and minerals for a period of time. You only eat and / or drink products that help your body cleanse itself and are good for digestion. Products that are difficult to digest, such as cow’s milk, meat and sugar, are temporarily not allowed to take. You can do it in different ways, you can only drink juices, but you can also choose to eat very basic, so only fruit and vegetables in combination with the juices. A detox provides more energy, radiant skin, a light feeling and better concentration.

I went for the 3-day juice cure in which you can drink 1 smoothie, 3 juices and 1 cashew milk daily. The week beforehand I tried to reduce my sugars, carbohydrates, meat and fish and coffee. On the day of the start, I received a refrigerated box at home before noon with 9 juices, 3 green smoothies, 3 milks, 2 lemons and a number of straws. You should start every day with lukewarm water with lemon. Then you start with a green smoothie with spinach, pineapple, coriander, avocado, banana, chia, ginger and lime, this smoothie contains extra fiber and immediately gives you a full feeling. This is followed by 3 different juices during the day, one green, a slightly sweeter with carrot or beetroot and another fresh with cucumber and mint. You end the day with a creamy cashew milk with dates and chai herbs. During the detox you will be supported by Detoxbox and you will receive stimulating emails in your mailbox. This greatly encourages you to continue.

How did i do?

In terms of timing, I had chosen a good weekend, no obligations, rain and therefore really again to stay inside. I started the day well with hot water with lemon instead of my daily coffee. To be honest, I thought the green smoothie was too intense for the morning, so I started with a juice every day. I then took the green smoothie for lunch. The rest of the day I drank my juices nicely, but I was so cold at the end of the day that Maurits made me a delicious broccoli soup, the sweetheart. And to be honest, I also took a handful of nuts in between, because I missed chewing a little.

The second day I was already looking forward to the smoothies, I am not a good drinker at all, so it is hard for me to just drink. However, this second day also went well and I again took an extra soup and a piece of pineapple and a handful of nuts. I expected that I would be very hungry but that was not so bad. The third day I was tired of it, I started the day again with hot water with lemon and then drank well but reluctantly my juices and smoothie. In between, I took a Nakd bar that only consists of fruit and nuts. At dinner I could not keep up and I ate vegetables from the oven. I especially missed the hot food. I also drank my first cup of coffee again today. In the days following the detox, I resumed my eating habits.

What did I think of it?

I am very proud of myself. I, who can only think about food all day, did it nicely. I expected that I would have a hard time not drinking coffee, but that was actually the easiest of all. I found the biggest challenge is that you have to drink so much, I am not a drinker and sometimes I was really hooked to the juices. I think that I also drank too little water overall during the detox and that gave me a little headache. I also felt a bit weak, but I didn’t shake my legs, which I sometimes have when I don’t eat for 2 hours. So all in all I thought it was a successful detox. Maybe not 100% as it should be, but an achievement for me. The advantage of the Detox Box is that they unburden, they offer a complete program and you do not have to think about anything yourself and that is nice.

What did it do?

I felt some sort of clarity in my head all the time. Typing blogs is silly, my concentration is good and I don’t feel tired in my head. In my body, but that’s a difference. A nice side effect is that your skin will really shine with all vitamins, my skin looks very glowy. My stomach feels nice and calm, you don’t actually feel it. I did have to pee continuously, but that is not surprising with the amount of fluid that you get. In terms of fitness, I didn’t think it was different, but I did have an even energy spread throughout the day and no after dinner dips.
